Updating Nougat v7.0 Based Oxygen OS Open Beta 9 On OnePlus 3

Android’s latest OS version v7.0 Nougat has been around for a while. With Google even recently releasing a Nougat v7.1.1 update.

However, OEMs seem to be having issues rolling out these Nougat updates to their devices. With a majority of OEMs not having rolled out the Nougat update.

Few OEMs have however been able to rollout the Nougat updates i.e. The likes of Sony, Samsung, Xiaomi, Lenovo (Moto), OnePlus etc.

OnePlus has launched a stable version of the Nougat update to its device after previously rolling out beta versions.

The latest rollout from OnePlus is the Android Nougatv7.0 based Oxygen OS. Which so far has been ascertained to be quite stable and bug free.

Today, I will be touching on how to install Open Beta 9 on OnePlus 3.

PROCEDURE

* DOWNLOAD OneBeta 9 HERE.

* Save the file in the internal memory of your OnePlus 3

* Save another copy on your PC

* Install ADB framework

* Download and install Universal Android drivers on your PC

* Extract and run the .exe file (Universal Android Drivers) as Administrator.

* Press ‘Y’ at all the queries asked by the installer when installing the Drivers.

* On your OnePlus 3 smartphone, Go to “About phone“(found under settings)

* Go to the build number and tap it seven times to enable “Developer Options

* Once you receive the ”You are a developer” toast notification, go back to the Settings menu

* Navigate to “Developer options

NB: Make sure to backup your data before you attempt these following processes.

METHODS OF INSTALLING ANDROID NOUGAT v7.0 BASED OxygenOS

There are 3 methods of installing the update depending on which OS version you currently have on

Method 1: This is for those who are on OxygenOS 3.2.8 with stock recovery

* Turn off your device

* Press the volume down button and power button to enter the recovery mode.

* Select “Install from USB” on the recovery screen and select ‘Ok’ to confirm.

* You will enter the sideload mode with the message “You are in sideload mode

* Open the folder where you have saved the OpenBeta 9 ROM file and connect OnePlus3 to the PC.

* Press and hold ‘Shift’ button and left click anywhere in the folder for the context menu to appear.

* Select ‘Open Command Window here’ to open a ‘Command Prompt

* Type “adb sideload filename.zip” (without quotes where filename is the name of the ROM file with the .zip extension).

* Disconnect the USB after the sideloading is done and let the device boot.

* Let the device complete the installation and enjoy.

Method 2: This is for those who are on Community Build or Open Beta 8 with stock recovery

* Go to settings and navigate to ‘Developer options’.

* Enable “Advance Reboot” option.

* Hold power button to bring up the power menu.

* Select “Reboot” and select “Recovery” option to reboot to recovery.

* Once booted to recovery mode, Select “Install from Internal Storage”.

* Navigate to the location where you save the OpenBeta 9 ROM file and select ‘Ok’ to start the installation.

* Let the device complete the installation and enjoy.

Method 3: This is for those whose device are rooted and have TWRP recovery installed.

* Go to settings and navigate to ‘Developer options’.

* Enable ‘Advance Reboot‘ option.

* Hold power button to bring up the power menu.

* Select “Reboot” and select “Recovery” option to reboot to recovery.

* Once booted to TWRP, Select “Install” and navigate to the ROM file to install.

* Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache and “Reboot to System” to complete the installation.
